Almeria has such interesting people ...............May 27, 2013

Holita Family!

Well this week was an interesting one! We had a super nice Zone Conference in Malaga with a bunch of other missionaries and learned tons from our AP's and lovely President Deere. I loooove having conferences in Malaga. It is such a big party!

Almería has such interesting people. All of Spain has such interesting people. Some are super nice and will do anything for us, some are creepy and weird, some are just flat out rude, and some just need to be baptized but won't accept it and end up giving up the greatest thing of their existence!

Some cool little milagros....Hna Grant and I didn't have many appointments so we were knocking this huge apt bldg and getting rejected like usual. Well, I was like, "alright, hija, choose your door and go at it!" So, she was super nervous but chose and door and guess who opened it, a super freaking gentlemen from Britain...totally speaks English. She was like, "YEAHHH! you speak English!!!" So, she lucked out and had a nice conversation with the nicest man in the world who truly wasn't interested but actually gave us the time of day to talk. Wow, why am I not serving in Britain?? lol, jk, Spain is awesome!!!

Then, I told her to do another door because that one was in English....cheater. So, she chose another door and guess what....the NICEST lady in the world answers and talked to us for like 5 minutes (longest chat ever) and we actually have a follow up "cita" with her. Incredible. Hna Grant just needs to do all the doors by herself because she chooses the best doors haha.

Another quick milagrito was when we were trying to find this less active chick's house and I totally read the address one and knocked the door which I was convinced was her door, but alas, a cute older guy opened it and ended up being the nicest guy ever. He was saying how important family was to him and we testified about the Restored Gospel and about families and he was super interested to knowing more! It was just so interesting because in the beginning he said they were all very strong Catholics and that's it, but he continued to let us testify and then he accepted to have us back. It was the strangest and coolest thing ever!!

So those are some awesome little milagritos that made this really rought week totally worth it :)

On the sad side we had one of our golden investigators drop flat out at the doorstep when we had members with us...and the members were people who gave us this investigator. She was one of their dear friends. So, it was really embarrassing and really heart wrenching to see this sweet woman just flat our tell us she didn't want to hear more. It was such a shock because we had no idea, NO idea that she would ever do that. Really rough. But, we have some potentials in the making and more work to be had!

I'm glad you all had so much fun on the lake at Owyhee!!! SO JEALOUS! I love you guys so much. Thank you for the awesome and epic emails! Loved them!!!! Que tengan una semana fantástica!! Love you all!

Week of Tender Mercies - May 20, 2013

Hola from Almería!!!

What a week!!!! MAN, so much went down! I will quickly give a little gist of what happened.

Update on our sweet little Muslim, Muhammed: We had a lesson in a park and he spoke super super bad spanish but since we speak badly too, we were able to communicate :) We gave him the book of mormon in ARABIC! He LOVED IT! He was super excited to have it in Arabic and Spanish so that he could learn spanish. We won't continue teaching him, but it was the sweetest experience to see him so excited about his book in Arabic :) It was a good time.

We also have 3 new investigators!! What the what! That's right! We are super stoked. They are all girls and are all like the SWEETEST people alive!! Seriously SUCH good people and they are just adorable. I love them all so much and we have only had like one lesson with each one. haha We are stoked. Two of them are actually from Almería and the other one is from Ecuador. We are excited to see how things go!!

Hna Grant and I had intercambios with our Sister Trainer Leaders!! I went to Málaga with one of my mommies! (hna brimhall!) And Hna Grant stayed here in Almería with Hna Wilcox. We learned so much from it and learned how we could better our work in Almería. It was such a blast. I also got to ride in a car with the AP's from Granada to Málaga. It was so much fun! So much better than the lame bus. Our AP's are the funniest people ever. Man, our mission is too awesome to handle.

We had an epic Zone Meeting in Granada and learned even more! This June is the month of inviting non members to church for all of Europe!! So it's the members' responsibility to bring peeps to church. We are gonna be teaching all of the members this month some tips on how to ask and how to help them feel comfortable with inviting. Should be great!

My freaking shiz of a missionary, Hna Grant, has also been pumping out some insanely awesome ideas that we could do with the ward and we are STOKED to start doing it! I'll let you know how it goes and explain this epic plan later :)

So things are looking up here in Almería and we are finally seeing some results and tons of blessings from the Lord! I love this work like crazy and I love this Church SO MUCH! We are a part of this incredible incredible work and I never want it to end even when I finish my misison. We are coming up on these last days of the Lord´s work...so get to work and start inviting some non members to Church!!

Love you family!! Stay safe and have fun on the lake!! Think of me and remember that I will always be the greatest surfer ever ;) Surf´s up with Laney in one year! YEAH!

Happy Mother's Day! - May 13, 2013

Hola!

Once again, HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY! Love you soooo much, mom!! It was so great to talk to most of the fam yesterday even though the skype didn't work. Sorry about that :/ I'll make sure to actually go to a computer place for top speed internet. But really, I loved talking to you guys. Shortest hour ever but so worth it!

Well we had a funny thing happen last night after calling you guys. We were out contacting because our lessons failed on us...as usual...so we hit the streets and contacted for the last half hour of the night. We were just walking and trying to find any soul on the street. I have no idea why everyone was gone. Usually sunday nights are hoppin. SO, we saw this guy that was kinda roamin the streets like us and we would go down a different road than him and then ten minutes later we would pass by him again and again and it was getting weird.
It then got to a point where we were walking like right behind him and my hija was like, "hola! Que tal?" ...he kinda just looked behind and smiled and didnt say much. We were like...does he even speak spanish?? haha he then just turned around and started saying some broken spanish and was saying how guapa we were...the usual, and I was like...great, another guy that doesnt really want to listen to what we have to say.
So I just made small talk as we walked with him a little bit and he's from Morocco (like everyone here in Almería) and doesnt speak spanish super well (also pretty typical). He only speaks Arabic and is muslim (kinda difficult cuz we aren't allowed to teach muslims.) I started to freak out a little after he told us he was Muslim because I have no idea how to teach Muslims without actually teaching them....yeah makes sense right?
So I began to explain very simply our purpose as missionaries and why were are here in Spain and the message that we share....yata yata and I was like, "soooo....I know you're Muslim n' all, but ummm would you like to learn more about Jesus Christ and the message that we share?" He jumped at the invitation which kinda made me nervous cuz I don't think he understood our purpose. So I explained like a third time why we wanted to meet with him and clearly stated what we would talk about the next time we visited haha. It was super funny. We are gonna meet with him in a plaza and see if he truly is interested.

There's a funny story for ya. It was the most interesting thing thats happened to us this week haha and our first "futuro" of the week. How sad is that. Mannnnnn got lots of work to do.

Well, I just want to let you all know that I still have a such a strong testimony of this Gospel even when the work is just tough and not very fun. It's the work of the Lord and we are only here to be His instruments. We know it'll be rough for a little while before it gets better but we're excited. I love my comp, Hna Grant, so much! We have a lot of fire and are just searching for those prepared people like nobody's business.

I love you guys!! Thank you for everything. Enjoy the sun...I hope it's warm there. We're suffering the 100degree weather already! Jolín!!! Spain is ridiculously hot. No wonder everyone sleeps for 4 hrs during the hottest part of the day haha. Have a great weeek!

love,
Hna Daly

First Week Training - May 6, 2013

MI PRIMERA HIJA!!!

Hola!!! I am officially a mom...in the mission field ;) How scary is that?! It's been quite the eye opening experience being a trainer. It definitely is a kick in the butt. I love my hija!!! Hermana Grant from Ceder City, UT. She is awesome!!! She is 19 years old tooooo! Although, she seems older than me. I'm just too immature and crazy I guess and always will be haha. She is super tall! Love it. We get along great and she brings lots of energy to our companionship.

I have already realized that I am super good at defending myself in Spanish. It's been really scary to be the only one of the companionship that knows enough spanish to communicate with people. I am surprised that I actually know a lot more that I thought. I still speak in broken spanish but at least I can teach all of the lessons and that's all that matters right now haha.

This week was really hard for me and my poor hija because we have like zero people to teach. I keep telling Hna Grant that this will probably be her hardest transfer and that I hope she's ready to learn lots and have lots of faith!! haha poor girl, oh man. At least I had people to teach when I was being trained. I am just trying really hard to let her know that it'll get better and we'll just have to find lots of ways to keep making ourselves laugh during the long hot days of walking in the streets.

However, we did have an epic lesson with our dearest Mauricio. Loooove that kid! He is super intelligent and has the coolest questions. We are having difficulties getting him to finally agree to a baptismal date but, he is progressing so much! Every lesson just gets more and more spiritual and awesome. I will just die if he doesn't get baptized while I'm here in Almería. Ugh, I will die. It's sad to think about if he doesnt get baptized. But, I guess everyone has their agency....

Our convert, Celia, is still my favorite person in the world. We are going to skype at her house for Mother's day next week!!! SO EXCITED!!! You'll get to meet my celia! Super cool. Yesterday was actually Mother's day here in Spain...weird. I think they are the only country that has a different Mother's day...what is up with that? It was cute though. All of the mom's got flowers yesterday at church :) I may have gotten a little emotional because I miss my mom so much! ;)

Well, not too much has gone on this week. Just lots of traveling and getting used to be a trainer and being responsible for the salvation fo souls. Totally normal.

See you next week, family!!! LOVE YOU!!! Miss you guys so much. Just 9 more months....but I'm not counting I swear ;)

Love,
Hermana Daly
